Holosun 507c V2 Tabletop Review

Holosun 507c V2 GR

The Holosun 507c-GR V2 is my very first foray into the handgun optics world… a few years ago I was a boomer. I was adamant that AIWB was the worst way to carry a handgun and that optics offered zero benefit for defensive purposes on handguns… my, my how times have changed. Anyway, I opted for the green reticle because I’m… ding, ding, ding, COLORBLIND! I’ve tried using the Trijicon RMR Type 2, the Burris Fastfire, and a couple of other micro optics that have a red reticle; each of them has resulted in color wash for me.

By color wash I mean that depending on how the sunlight is hitting the gun, target, or even the background I completely lose the dot. Since I’ve never really had issues being able to differentiate green from red (it’s mostly the other way around) I figured that the 507c-GR V2 would be my best option.

At JustPews Tabletop Reviews are introductions to new products with our initial thoughts. These are not full on reviews; please keep that in mind. These posts will also be exclusive to the website only.

While I have had the Holosun 507c-GR V2 mounted and zeroed previously to my Walther PPQ M2 5″, I didn’t get the required amount of rounds through it in order provide you with a proper review (when I publish the review requirements article, I’ll link it here for you to find). Because of that this Tabletop will offer a little more insight than some of the others.

As someone who is severely Red/Green colorblind, I’ve had absolutely zero issues with the Hol0sun 507c-GR V2 in both indoor environments, indoors looking outdoors into sunlight, and on an outdoor range for live fire. The results? Welp, they were great to say the least and we’ll get there in a minute.

My experience with the 507c V2 over the last 6 months I’ve gotten to do some limited testing on:
1. Battery life
2. Shake awake feature
3. Reticle testing on the range (reticle looks larger than in pictures)

The factory battery (I can’t recall the brand as I’m writing this…or if it’s even listed) has yet to die. I keep it set at one brightness setting below the max and that’s where it stays 24/7.

The shake awake feature has worked perfectly so far. It shuts off every 10 minutes, if the table it’s on gets bumped, or I pick it up the optic is on by the time I bring it up to eye level.

While this is a multi reticle system offering the ability to use the EOTech donut, a dot, or the EOTech donut with a dot in the center. As a person that’s new to MRDs on pistols, I had a harder time trying to zero the optic with the EOTech donut than with just the dot. After zeroing the pistol I also had a harder time getting a cadence on a 6″ steel plate at ~25 yards with the EOTech donut than with just the dot itself.

While I’m a fair bit away from providing a full review on this optic, I did get some limited experience with how it handles recoil; which is just fine. There was no flickering between shots of the reticle, the optic didn’t shutdown, etc.

So far I’m not only enjoying that Dot Lyfe, but I’m really enjoying the Holosun 507c-GR V2. While many people will rag on where it’s produced, it’s the only “good” powered option on the market that offers a green reticle which is advantageous for someone like myself.

If you’re a colorblind shooter that’s having issues finding an optic that will work for you regardless of the lighting situation, definitely try out the Holosun 507c-GR V2 (if you can find one).
